WOODSTOCK — A large cast of all ages will bring the story of Aladdin to the stage of the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village in Woodstock.

“We’re very proud of the cast,” Artistic Director G. Lora Grooms said. “They worked very hard, and it’s going to be a great show.”

Directed by Lora Berry, the production just short of two hours promises to be colorful, lively and very funny, according to Grooms, who also wrote the play.

“We have everything from zany ninja bodyguards for the Sultan to six mini-me genies who ‘do all the work’ for Sankari, the genie of the lamp,” she said. “The cast ranges in age from 8 to, well, let’s say over 50, and have worked the entire month of June to get prepared for our audiences.”

Elm Street’s rendition of the classic story, which Grooms notes as being “a wonderful and popular story,” adds comedy while also teaching the audience the importance of being who you are, she said.

“The message is something we all need to be reminded of from time to time,” Grooms said, “It’s great to do something like that while being funny at the same time.”

Grooms said she is especially excited about the intricate costumes by designer Elaine Heinisch and sets and props constructed by Cindy and Jim Flanders.

The show plays on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. from July 11 to 25.

All seats are $9 online in advance or $11 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at www.elmstreetarts.org.

Grooms said she expects about 200 people in the audience at each performance and encouraged attendees to get tickets in advance, but said there are always seats available.

The performance will take place at City Center, located at 8534 Main St. in Woodstock.

Prior to the show’s debut, there will be a tea party at Tea Leaves and Thyme at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Owner Kim Jordy and her staff created a menu that goes with the story. Guests can enjoy teas and treats while meeting Aladdin and his princess, who will sing and pose for pictures. Tickets are $16.50 and include meal, tax and gratuity.
