COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) _ Authorities say an armed man was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with police near the University of Maryland campus in College Park.

Prince George’s County police say they were called to the scene around 10 p.m. Thursday for a report of a man with a gun. Police spokesman, Cpl. Clinton Copeland, says gunshots were exchanged and the suspect then fled.

Copeland says police chased the man and encountered him a short distance away. The man, who was not been identified, was taken to a hospital.

Copeland says police plan to release further details about the incident during a news conference Friday.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the university took any extra security measures because of the shooting.
