Only one candidate, Patsy Jordan, who is running for the Post 2 seat, is not on record on the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission’s website. The grace period for candidates to report their contributions and expenditures for the period ending June 30 concluded Monday.
Jordan’s campaign committee said she mailed her report via certified mail July 3. Holly LaBerge, executive secretary for the commission, said Wednesday that she did not have Jordan’s report on hand, but that it was possible that her mailing was in a stack yet to be filed.
LaBerge said she and her staff of three are about a month behind in filing mailed-in reports.
Kim Cochran, Jordan’s opponent and current Post 2 board member, reported that she has collected a total of $12,345.64. Cochran’s expenditures for the period totaled $11,046.64 leaving her with $1,299 balance on hand.
Cochran reported $2,980.64 in outstanding indebtedness, the same amount she reported at the beginning of the filing period.
Cochran’s only reported itemized contribution was from N. Cochran Attorneys at Law, her husband’s law firm, for $500.
The only expenditure she listed for the period was her qualifying fee for the Cherokee County Republican Party for $216.
For the Board of Education Chair race, current Vice Chair Janet Read reported having $2,781.01 in total contributions, with $3,169.09 in total expenditures leaving her with a deficit of $388.08 on hand.
Read did not report any loans received or outstanding indebtedness for the period.
Read’s reported cash contributions totaled to $575. The contributions to Read’s campaign included $200 from Steve Sandridge, owner of Pied Piper Pest Control in Canton; $125 from Lanier Shelnut of Canton; and $250 from Catherine Wallner of Woodstock.
Her total reported expenditures were $2,898.27.
Read’s opponent, Danny Dukes, reported $8,062.72 in total contributions and $7,334.88 in total expenditures to date, leaving the with $727.84 on hand.
Dukes’ outstanding indebtedness at the beginning of the reporting period was $5,687 and made a loan to hiw own campaign for $7,334.88 for a total of $13,021.88.
Dukes’ reported cash contributions totaled $500. Contributors to his campaign included $200 from Jeffrey Bunch, attorney at Harris and Bunch of Marietta, for $200; $150 from Edward Engle of Waleska; and $150 from JC Long of Woodstock.
His total expenditures for the reporting period amounted to $7,066.79 for signs, magnets, stickers business cards, parade supplies, catering and tshirts.
Post 1 candidates were similar in the amount of money contributed and spent during their respective campaigns, but Kelly Marlow took time to report campaign contributions under $100, which is not required by law, as a part of her campaign disclosure agreement with the Cherokee County Tea Party Patriots she signed at a recent press conference.
Marlow’s total contributions to date amounted to $5,329. She reported spending $4,195.86 leaving her with $1,133.89 on hand.
Marlow loaned her own campaign $794.75 total, noting multiple donations. She received in-kind donations totalling $1,102 and reported $4,325 in cash contributions.
Some of the contributors in the itemized report included: Larry Blase, Cherokee Charter Academy Local Governing Council member, for $120; Friends of Chip Rogers for $500; Michael Geist, member of the Cherokee Board of Education for $100; Chris Knowles, founder of Cherokee C.H.O.I.C.E., for $100; Bill Long, former mayor of Woodstock and an active member of the Grassroots Conservatives of Cherokee County, and his son, Joe Long, each for $100; Cyndi Mitas, an information services manager for Piedmont Healthcare, for $530 in cash and $178.92 in in-kind donations for printing hand fans; Sean Jerguson for State House for $250; and Cherokee Charter Academy Principal Vanessa Suarez for $100.
Marlow’s total paid expenditures were $3,497.90
Her opponent, Kyla Cromer, reported $3,588 in total contributions to date and a total expenditure of $2,931.53, leaving her with $656.47. Cromer reportedly loaned herself $1,870 for the campaign.
Cromer did not report the names of any contributers as all donations she received were under $100. Her total paid expenditures was $2,489.
