Close to 2,500 people have already visited the Stone Elections Building in downtown Canton to cast their vote for local and statewide offices, said Cherokee County Elections Supervisor Janet Munda.
Munda said the turnout has been “absolutely wonderful.”
She noted she recently talked to an election official in Fulton County, who said they’ve only had about 2,400 people show up for early voting.
“Voters are great in Cherokee County,” Munda added. “They always come through and come out (to vote).”
Registered voters can cast their ballot today at the main office at 400 East Main St. in Canton from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the elections office as well as Ball Ground Public Library, Hickory Flat Public Library, Rose Creek Public Library and Woodstock Public Library will be open for voting from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Munda said she’s expecting the Saturday voting option to be popular, as people won’t have to drive to Canton to vote.
“Having those allows those voters to take advantage of that,” she added.
From July 23 to July 27, voters can also visit Ball Ground Public Library, Hickory Flat Public Library, Rose Creek Public Library and Woodstock Public Library as well as the elections office to vote from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There will be no voting July 30.
On Election Day, which falls on July 31, all county precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voters must cast their ballots at their assigned precinct on Election Day.
When voting in person at any time, voters must bring a form of government-issued photo identification.
Munda also said there’s steady interest in voting by mail. About 2,000 ballots have been mailed out and Munda added close to 1,000 have been returned to the office.
Munda noted the ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. July 31 to the Canton office.
Munda added the office has not experienced any problems or glitches in its system and noted she expects the stream of voters coming to vote early to remain steady.
“I think it will be a moderate flow (of people) and I expect that to be on Election Day as well,” she said.
