Nelson Planning and Zoning Commission member Mike Haviland and former Nelson City Council member James Queen both qualified to run in the Nov. 6 special election.
The next mayor will replace David Leister, who resigned earlier this year. Leister on Tuesday was elected as the Republican Party’s choice to become the next Pickens County tax commissioner.
Resident Thad Thacker is planning to qualify as a write-in candidate for the election.
Haviland is retired as an economic developer for the city of Santa Clarita, Calif.
Queen was first elected in 2001 to the council but resigned his seat to run for mayor in 2009. Leister defeated Queen in that election.
Thacker ran for the City Council in 2010 to replace former City Council member Willie Pye, who died suddenly.
