After at least three reports of alleged solicitation scams, a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman is warning residents of what appears to be “questionable activity” by solicitors in the area.
Lt. Jay Baker said victims have reported that three heavy-set males in a green Chevrolet pick-up truck are soliciting residents to perform various types of yard work. However, Baker said victims reported the men left before completing the job and have cashed checks that were given to them prior to finishing the work.
“Because some work was performed, these cases are civil issues and not criminal,” Baker said. “However, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to never pay someone for work until the job has been completed and they are satisfied with the end result.”
Additionally, if a resident ever feels intimidated by a solicitor, Baker said they should immediately call 911.
