MACON, Ga. (AP) — A central Georgia animal shelter is closed as investigators look into two cases of parvo, an often-deadly virus that attacks dogs.

The Telegraph of Macon reports that Bibb County’s animal shelter has been shut down until an inspector from the Georgia Department of Agriculture investigates the two cases, which were discovered late Tuesday.

Bibb County spokesman Kevin Barrere said the state inspector was scheduled to be at the shelter Thursday

Barrere said one of the puppies was euthanized. The other one was kept by its foster family, who took it to a veterinarian.

Barrere said cages that held the puppies were sterilized, and the shelter was closed for business Wednesday. Barrere said no animals will be accepted at the shelter until it reopens, nor will visitors be allowed.
