Sgt. Jeff Tucker said officials have not yet released the woman’s name.
“It appears she was run over by her own vehicle in the driveway,” Tucker said. “It came out of gear and we’re investigating it right now.”
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender said emergency personnel and members of the Canton Fire Department responded to the neighborhood off Highway 140 after they received a person hit call on the 200 block of Towering Peaks.
Cavender said firefighters found the woman lying in the middle of the roadway and paramedics determined she incurred severe head trauma.
“She had apparently been struck by a Jeep Liberty SUV,” Cavender said.
Tucker said it appeared the Liberty — her own vehicle — came down the hilly driveway and appeared to push her into the roadway. The woman’s husband was also present at the home during the accident, Tucker said, but did not say whether he was involved in the accident.
The life flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene to take the woman to Grady, where she was in critical condition, Cavender said.
Cavender said no additional injuries were reported and the Canton Police Department was investigating the cause of the accident.
