On Monday, detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Miranda, 27, after executing a search warrant of his home located on the 100 block of Latimer Drive in Canton.
Capt. Joe Perkins with the sheriff’s office said no explosive devices were located during the search, but Miranda was arrested while at work at the plant on Univeter Road.
“When we went to interview the other employees, they said he talked about wanting to leave work early that day,” Perkins said. “We think he did it with the intention that they would close the plant down for the day, but that didn’t happen.”
Perkins said the call came into Cherokee County 911 on Thursday from an unknown male caller who said a bomb was placed at the chicken processing plant.
Sheriff’s deputies, members of Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and K-9 units from the sheriff’s office and the Woodstock Police Department responded to the scene but did not discover any explosive devices.
“Public safety personnel were on scene at the plant for two hours conducting searches and interviews,” Perkins said. “Significant county resources were expended during this search.”
Miranda is being held at Cherokee County Detention Center on $11,200 bond.
