Firefighters with both the city and county fire departments responded to the residential structure fire on the 300 block of Santa Anita Avenue in the Brookshire subdivision at approximately 11:42 a.m., said Officer Randy Milligan.
Milligan said exterior flames were visible from outside the home.
“Firefighters made a rapid interior attack and were able to extinguish the fire,” Milligan said, adding the home was only damaged on one side.
The fire started after the homeowner mistakenly disposed of the coals in a landscape compost pile near the side of the home, Milligan said.
“The homeowner was home, thankfully, so (the fire department) could respond quickly and save the home,” Milligan said.
