All counts are related to images Richard Ensley, 37, possessed on his computer of child pornography, and were presented by District Attorney Garry Moss in the Superior Court of Cherokee County.
In a news conference in July, Sheriff Roger Garrison described Ensley’s arrest as “possibly the largest child pornography case in the county.”
Ensley was arrested during the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office’s bi-annual, multi-jurisdictional sweep to verify the addresses of 181 sex offenders living in the county. At the time, Ensley was not a registered sex offender, but officers included the raid as part of the operation.
Ensley’s arrest, among 16 others ranging from traffic charges to sexual exploitation of children during the two-day sweep, was part of an ongoing investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
“We are certainly pleased with the continued success of our ICAC unit. They put in a lot of time that does not end in an actual arrest. Fortunately this time we were able to put together enough information to make an arrest and that led to this case, which is the biggest case of child pornography we have had in this county,” Garrison said Wednesday.
Garrison said the images and videos obtained from a search warrant of Ensley’s home in Towne Lake, located in the 100 block of Grove Park Lane, depicted children ranging in age from infants to 16-year-olds and some images dated back to 1995.
Ensley worked as a computer analyst in Cobb County and had recently moved from Cobb to Cherokee before the sweep, Garrison said.
“This is a predator that needs to be removed from the streets and hopefully he is never free to victimize children again,” Garrison said. “I am proud of the aggressive work by this unit.”
Ensley was originally charged with 25 counts of sexual exploitation of children and was being held at Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond.
