 Oberkrom said she is pleased to be a part of Taste of Canton. ‘It has great exposure, we had so many new customers who said they tasted our food for the first time after the event last year,’ she said. ‘It is a good time to meet all the merchants and enjoy lots of small town camaraderie.’ She will enter her cookies in the Best Dessert competition.

CANTON — The 12th Annual Taste of Canton is serving up some appetizing fare Thursday at Cannon Park in historic downtown Canton.

The mouth-watering event is sponsored by the Canton Main Street Program and takes place from 5 to 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and are good for one taste at each participating booth.

The event is an annual favorite featuring some of the best restaurants, caterers and specialty food merchants in the community, said Ginger Garrard, Main Street program director for the city.

“We have quite a few returning chefs, as well as a few new ones to try out,” Garrard said.

A new addition this year is a variety of non-food vendors selling arts and crafts, she said.

Restaurants and chefs participating will be judged and awards presented for the following categories: Best Entrée, Best Appetizer, Best Dessert and Best Decorated Booth.

Wine and beer will be available for purchase, as well as, soft drinks and water.

Diane Oberkrom, owner of Soul Food Market in Canton, said she participated last year and is pleased to be a part of the Taste of Canton this year.

Oberkrom said that she is entering the Best Dessert competition with her Gooey Butter Cookies.

“We are going to have three Gooey Butter Cookies this year. In the past with the roll of tickets you could sample several things. This year you get one taste per booth,” Oberkrom said.
