WOODSTOCK — The fourth annual Woodstock Art and Wine Festival this weekend will offer visitors to the downtown area a chance to raise a toast to the best the city has to offer.

The festival will blend high quality art and entertainment for a two-day outdoor family-friendly celebration in the heart of Woodstock from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The festival is sponsored by the Woodstock Main Street program and takes place in the Park at City Center in downtown Woodstock.

More than 60 artists from around the Southeast will display and offer their works representing a variety of media including photography, sculpture, pottery and more, according to festival organizers.

Patrons can enjoy a wine tasting area featuring a variety of wines to sample. The cost is $25 for a wine tasting wristband.

Visitors can bring a blanket and find a spot on the entertainment lawn for live music and entertainment from local and regional performers.

Children will find plenty to do in the children’s area which will feature hands on art projects and activities.

Kyle Bennett, director of Tourism and Visitors Center Operations for the city, said that the party is starting early Friday night with a special themed First Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m.

“Downtown will feature lots of art at this Friday Night Live as well as some wine tasting,” Bennett said.

Many of the stores and restaurants will be offering themed specials on Friday night as well, he said.

A jazz duo will be performing in front of Cupcakealicous during Friday Night Live.

Ann Litrel Art is participating in the Northwest Atlanta Studio tour. Artists Ann Litrel, Kristina Havens, and Deborah Tidwell will have their artwork on display and for sale. Info on art classes by these artists will also be available.

As a part of Saturday’s festivities, the Woodstock Police Foundation is hosting the second annual charity Woodstock’s Great American Chili Cook-Off on Nov. 3.

“We are excited about expanding Woodstock’s Great American Chili Cook-Off after the success of our 2011 event. The great thing about this event is that people have a good time and all proceeds benefit the Woodstock Police Foundation,” said John Bevilaqua, president of the group.

The Chili Cook-Off will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first day of the festival.

It will feature two competitive divisions: an open division and a commercial division.

The open division will be open to any teams, organizations or individuals and will be judged by executive chefs from local restaurants.

The prizes for the best chili in Woodstock have been increased to almost $3,000 with a first place cash prize of $1,500, $750 for second place and $500 for third place due to corporate and individual charitable donors, Bevilaqua said.

Teams will be required to prepare five gallons of chili and the entry charitable donation for the open division is $100.

The open division competitors will not compete against the commercial division. The open division contestants will compete for the cash prizes.

The commercial division will feature local restaurants and will be judged by the Woodstock Police Foundation and the public.

Teams will be required to prepare five gallons of chili and the entry charitable donation is $200 for the commercial division.

The commercial division contestants will compete for the Woodstock People’s Choice Award where the top winners will be presented with a trophy.
