More than 500 eager shoppers lined up for Belk’s midnight opening at Riverstone Plaza, store manager Pam Price said. The store gave away gift cards to the first 250 shoppers in line, including one gift card worth $1,000.
“It was wild. But they were a great crowd,” Price said.
Boots and tablets were popular items with the early-morning crowd, she added.
Shoppers Carrie and Ben Jordan started their morning by heading to Town Center Mall in Kennesaw at 4:30 a.m. then made their way to Canton Marketplace.
“We’re shopping for anybody we can get checked off,” Carrie said. “We’ve checked off quite a few.”
Carrie said the best deals they had found were at Kohl’s.
Ashley Martin came from Gilmer County with her boyfriend to buy a television from Best Buy in Canton. This year was her first Black Friday experience, but Martin wasn’t too impressed by the deals.
“I can get the same deals any other day, basically,” she said.
Julie Arp of Woodstock browsed around Lowe’s, Kohl’s and Target in Canton Markpetplace with her sisters starting around 7 a.m. Since her large family doesn’t exchange many Christmas gifts, Arp bought birthday presents instead.
By the time Arp and her sisters started their shopping, most of the crowds had died down in the stores, and they didn’t have to wait in many lines.
Arp said she enjoyed being able to take advantage of deals at multiple stores in one trip.
“I might be able to find something a little cheaper another day, but if you want to knock it all out at once, it’s nice because the stores are all offering some kind of deal,” she said.
At Dress Up Boutique in Woodstock, customers stocked up on advertised specials, including scarves and headwarmers.
“Those, especially, are really good gift items. A lot of people are buying those as gifts,” store manager Molly Powell said.
Customers had an additional incentive for shopping at Dress Up on Black Friday. The City of Woodstock is raffling off a $100 Downtown Dollars gift certificate for downtown shoppers.
Anyone who spent at least $10 at a downtown store or restaurant Friday—or does so today—is eligible for a chance to win. Shoppers can show receipts at the Woodstock Visitors Center at Dean’s Store to be entered in the drawing.
