Yawn’s Publishing has just released local author Dr. James E. Kilgore’s 14th book, “Getting More Family out of Your Dollar.”
Kilgore has distilled insights from more than 50 years of working with families in marriage and family therapy into the book.
The practical insights about budgeting, use of credit and handling finances are set against an understanding of the factors that affect family attitudes about money.
“Whether you are married, have children, or are just starting to manage your own money, this is a book for you. You will find yourself in the multiple examples Dr. Kilgore gives and much more,” according to a release about the book from Yawn’s.
Kilgore began his marriage and family counseling practice in Atlanta in 1969 and moved his offices to Canton in 1984. He was the founding pastor of Lake Arrowhead Chapel and served more than 24 years there.
He now maintains a limited practice in the office of the International Family Foundation Inc. in Canton.
Most recently, he has filled the post of interim director of Congregational Care for Canton First United Methodist Church and continues as an active volunteer with the Cherokee Chorale and as volunteer coordinator for the annual Firefighter Appreciation Week in Cherokee County.
He has served as the first chair of the Georgia Marriage and Family Counselor Licensing Board and was chair of the Cherokee County Ethics Board.
Kilgore is a regular blogger on the Cherokee Tribune website, cherokeetribune.com.
“Writing has given me another vehicle for communicating with people and helping those who may be hurting,” said Kilgore. “It’s very satisfying to get a letter or email from someone who says a book you’ve written has helped them turn their lives around and find a new direction in their marriage or family. That’s all you can hope for as a writer.”
Kilgore will be at Yawn’s Books and More in Canton for a signing on Friday, Dec. 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Copies may also be obtained through the International Family office, (770) 479-3669 or on the web, internationalfamily.org.
The ebook version is available at Amazon.
