The evening’s festivities, chaired by Bill Byrne, District Attorney Vic Reynolds and Solicitor General Barry Morgan, includes the Bill Atkins Band, featuring Pat Head and Radio Hall of Fame and Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame Member Rhubarb Jones. Dinner will be provided by Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q.
Contributions to attend are $35 per person or $50 per couple. All proceeds benefit the YWCA of Northwest Georgia.
The vision of the YWCA of Northwest Georgia, established in 1917, is to create a community free of domestic violence and sexual assault. Serving primarily Cherokee, Cobb and Paulding counties, the organization provides programs and services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
“This fundraiser is important because the YWCA offers the only domestic violence shelter in the county, as well as transitional housing for up to 24 months, legal advocates to help with temporary protective orders, medical services to assault victims, counseling and support groups for as long as needed and a 24-hour crisis line,” said Babe Atkins-Byrne, who has organized the event for four years.
The event also educates the public about important work the YWCA does for the community.
“We feel that the awareness that this fundraiser gives to the YWCA is invaluable because not everyone knows about the YWCA and what it offers,” said Atkins-Byrne, who recently retired after working for Cobb Superior Court Judge George Kreeger for 34 years.
Awareness is crucial to the YWCA to carry out its mission.
