Gordy Wright, spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol, said Cortney Jade King was driving her 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle eastbound on Highway 108/Fincher Road near Ammons Road around 1:35 p.m. when the car ran off the road.
“The driver over-corrected, left the road and hit several trees,” Wright said.
King was unrestrained and died in the crash. Her niece, 5-year-old Alexis King, was properly restrained in a booster seat and survived the accident.
The child sustained cuts to her hands and arm and was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for treatment, Wright said.
Wright said alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash and GSP has not yet determined the cause of the accident.
Funeral services were Tuesday for King at the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home.
Survivors include King’s domestic partner, Brittany Satterfield of Waleska; mother, Gina Blanton King of Waleska; father, Greg Brandy King of Adairsville; brother, Chas King of Waleska; sisters Sidney King, Sierra King, Makayla King and Brea King, all of Adairsville; and grandmother Reecie Gig Bil Wienke of Waleska.
