DEAR EDITOR:

I am amazed at the ability of Steve Marcinko (Jan. 27 letter to the editor) to look into the minds and hearts of everyone across American and determine their goodness or “evil” based on their choice of political party.

And also at his determination that both Democrats and Republicans had the same ideals over the past half-century.

Has he forgotten the dream of Democrat Martin Luther King and party flip flopper Gov. George C. Wallace’s determination to destroy that dream with dogs, cattle prods and axe handles?

Or that it was JFK who condemned segregation?

Marcinko overlooks the resignation of Republican President Nixon and that of Vice President Spiro Agnew, neither of whom was elected by Democrats.

Or the recent resignation of Republican Sen. Chip Rogers to take a $150,000 Georgia Public Broadcasting position with no job description and not posted for other long term employees.

We can equally examine some of the misbehavior in both parties over the years, but neither has ever been in total agreement or without “sin.”

It is obvious that no party affiliation can determine the goodness or lack thereof of an individual or that choice of belief determines worthiness or unworthiness.

Neither party is pure as driven snow and neither party is in cohorts with the devil.

Americans have the right to their own beliefs without venomous castigation.
