The county is starting to build five new baseball fields on Univeter Road. I think the county should take this opportunity to honor several Cherokee County natives.
These men have played a huge role in many kids’ lives over the years through their leadership and love of baseball.
Homer Adams — Founding Father of the Canton Little League. Homer helped shape the program for over 23 years.
Herman Lawson — President of the Cherokee Booster Club. Herman Lawson coached youth baseball for over 20 years.
Ty Adams — Involved with Canton Dizzy Dean for over 30 years. Served on both the State and National Boards.
Artfellow Gates — Coached youth Canton Dizzy Dean, youth baseball and youth basketball for over 30 years. Helped start the Cherokee Boy and Girls Club.
Willis Waters — Involved with Canton Dizzy Dean for over 20 years.
Jimmy Long — Involved with Canton Dizzy Dean for over 20 years.
The county has an opportunity to honor these men by naming these fields after them. This is a chance to show these men and their families how much the people of Cherokee appreciate all they have done for the county.
I understand that the final decision lies with the county commissioners.
