CANTON — Encouraging participants to “wear your school colors, bring your school mascot, bring your football team,” this year’s Run for the Children 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run will offer a $1,000 award to the school with the most participation at the event on March 23.
Hosted by the Service League of Cherokee County, the 10th annual Run for the Children race will take place in historic downtown Canton at 8 a.m. that morning, rain or shine.
It is one of the League’s premier fundraising events, with all profits benefiting the needy children of Cherokee County. To encourage record attendance for this worthy cause, the League has pledged a $1,000 award to the school with the highest attendance.
This award was made possible by donations from Cherokee Bank and Roach, Caudill, and Gunn LLP. The League is also offering cash awards for the top three Overall Male and Overall Female competitors.
They will have Overall Masters Male/Female awards, and age group awards will be given out three-deep in standard age groups, beginning with 10 and under and going up to 75 and over.
Finish line management and results will be provided by Classic Race Services. The race is part of the Black Bag Race Series.
Registration is now open through the Service League of Cherokee County website www.Service League.net, as well as through Active.com. Registration fee is $25 before March 13 and $30 afterward and on race day.
Registration closes on March 20. All registered participants are guaranteed commemorative long-sleeve Dri-Fit shirts.
Established in 1935, the Service League of Cherokee County is a volunteer group of 80 women who work year-round, volunteering a collective total of over 10,000 hours per year, to raise funds for local needy children. Funds raised during this event and other activities, including RIVERFEST, provide for necessities like clothing and eyeglasses, while also supporting camps, scholarships and more.
