COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after Columbus police shot and killed a man.

Columbus police say officers were responding to a domestic dispute when they encountered the man around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the man fired a weapon at officers, who returned fire and struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene on Oates Avenue. None of the officers were hurt.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Muscogee County District Attorney’s Office are investigating. Authorities said the man’s body will be taken to the crime lab in Atlanta on Thursday for an autopsy.

Few other details were released Wednesday morning.
