The 13th annual Coaches Invitational, which will be held today and Saturday at Georgia Tech, brings together some of the top programs in the state across all classifications, as well as some highly regarded teams from South Carolina and Alabama. It is jointly sponsored by the Atlanta Track Club and Pope High School.
This evening’s schedule for girls athletes will consist of the high jump, long jump, pole vault, discus, semifinals for the high hurdles and 100-meter dash, as well as the 6,400 relay and sprint medley. The boys will compete in the long jump, discus, 6,400 relay, sprint medley and semifinals for the high hurdles and 100.
On Saturday, the meet will resume with the triple jump, 3,200 run, steeplechase, 400 relays, 1,600 relays, 3,200 relays and co-ed sprint medley.
Among the Cherokee County athletes expected to do well are Creekview’s Anna Dunn (300 hurdles, pole vault) and Etowah’s Leena Morris (shot put, discus), Allison Guebert (high jump), Hannah Keith (pole vault). Etowah’s girls 3,200 relays teams, both boys and girls, are also expected to do well.
Other participating athletes include Creekview’s Sidney Bosley (steeplechase), Mary Kella Carr (shot put, discus), Ryan Camp (steeplechase), Caleb Potter (high jump, triple jump), Nathan Pelletier (shot put, discus) and Etowah’s Kyla Resnick (3,200), Brandon Engle (100) and Allison Guebert (high jump).
Brookwood and Peachtree Ridge are favored to win the boys team title, with J.L. Mann (S.C.) and Alpharetta favored for the girls title.
