Four sex offenders were arrested during the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office biannual sex offender verification last week.

Over a two-day period, sheriff’s deputies and members of several other law enforcement agencies in Cherokee verified 166 addresses and arrested 15 people throughout the sweep, including for unrelated outstanding warrants and other violations.

Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, said 186 sex offenders live in the county and the remaining offenders’ addresses will be verified this week by the Sex Offender Registry Unit.

Other agencies involved included the Canton, Holly Springs, and Woodstock police departments, Georgia Department of Corrections Parole and Probation and the FBI North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force.

“The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring that registered sex offenders are residing and working in approved locations,” Sheriff Roger Garrison said in an emailed release. “I consider this responsibility one of the highest priorities of this agency.”

Those arrested, according to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, include Juan Lopez, 20, of Canton, who was charged with violation of the sex offender registry and remains in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center with $11,200 bond.

Lopez was previously arrested in October 2011 in Acworth and charged with robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after authorities located a .357 revolver in his hotel. He was also convicted in 2010 for sexual battery, according to records.

Timothy Zibung, 26, of Canton, was charged with violation of the sex offender registry and remains in custody at Cherokee ADC with an $11,200 bond, the sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

The two other sex offenders were arrested on charges not related to the sex offender registry, Baker said.

Stacy West, 37, of Canton, was charged with obstruction of an officer and released Thursday on $680 bond.

Tyler Luikart, 27, of Woodstock, was charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce, violation of probation and possession of a drug-related object. Luikhart remains in custody with no bond.

Other non-sex offenders arrested during the sweep, according to the Sheriff’s Office, were:

* Amanda Lathren, 26, of Woodstock, who was charged with violation of probation and remains in custody with no bond.

* Zachary Campbell, 20, of Woodstock, was charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce, giving a false name to law enforcement and violation of probation. Campbell remains in custody with no bond.
