BROWN, Louise Watts

Cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Louise Watts Brown, 95, of Canton passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 25, 2013. She was born on Christmas day, 1917 to Walter and Trudy Watts in Kenova, WV. Together, with her husband, Claude, Louise raised their two sons and cared for her mother and grandmother. Throughout her life, Louise worked actively in her community; teaching high school for 40 years, and serving as pianist for over 20 years at the Warren Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. She is a 1938 graduate of Marshall University, and started her teaching career at Buffalo High School in West Virginia where she taught math and also lead the band program for many years, even participating with the band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade one year, in the early days of the parade’s history. Her marriage to Claude in 1952 took her away from WV with his career in the Army. They eventually settled in Augusta, Georgia where she taught Algebra and Geometry to thousands of students at Butler High School and Westside High School. After retirement, Louise served in many capacities; as president of the teacher’s retirement Association of Georgia, as president of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Alabama, volunteering and donating her services to the Auburn Police Department in Alabama, and serving her church community. Louise was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock for many years and cherished member of the senior choir. Louise is survived by her two sons, Dan Allen Brown, Sequatchie, Tennessee, Claude Steven Brown, Canton Georgia and their spouses; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Louise is preceded by her loving husband, Claude Brown, her brother, Walter Watts, her sister, Dorothy Hawes, and her grandchild Tiffany Brown.
