Woodstock is staying alive Friday with an ’80s Night celebration for First Friday in April.

The city sponsors an event the first Friday of every month in downtown Woodstock and invites residents and visitors to come out and enjoy the many restaurants and stores the area has to offer. Downtown merchants stay open late from 6 to 9 p.m. and celebrate with a themed downtown festival.

“For each Friday Night Live theme, participating downtown merchants will have activities going on at their stores and throughout the downtown area related to the theme of the month,” said Kyle Bennett, director of Tourism and Visitors Center Operations for the city.

Bennett says this is the time to bring out those Members Only Jackets.

“From disco to rap, bangs to big hair, come and relive the magic of the ’80s. Join the fun and dress up as your favorite ’80s icon for this Friday Night Live.” Bennett said.

The ’80s Night will feature a themed costume contest where the winner will receive a $100 Downtown Gift Certificate. To enter the contest an individual or group must come by the Woodstock Visitors Center during the event to have their picture taken.

An online vote will be the week after the event to select the winner, Bennett said.

For every $10 shoppers spend at a downtown business during Friday Night Live they will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Downtown Dollars Gift Certificate.

Live music will be offered on the sidewalks around downtown Woodstock during the event, Bennett said, including at Seven Arrows and Cupcakelicious.

Teen Arts Night sponsored by Elm Street’s Teen Arts Guild is also planned for youth in grades seven to 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Center 8534 Main Street Woodstock.

At 9 p.m., iThink Improv Troup will take the stage at City Center auditorium for some family- friendly laughs as the troupe takes audience suggestions and turns them into wacky comedy. All seats are $5.

Other merchants taking part in the event include Ipp’s, Hot Dog Heaven, J Millers Smokehouse, Samson & Delilah, Ann Litrel Art, Blue Frog Imports, LKT Sports Art, Natural Strides, The Wright Stuff, Century House Tavern, Pure Taqueria, Frieght Kitchen & Tap, Fire Stone Wood Fired Pizza, Bridal Exchange Boutique, Brenda’s House of Flowers, Pineapple Park, Ember Hot Yoga, Swirl By Design, Ice Martini Bar, Yoguri, Maxwell’s Cigar bar, Dismerio, Threads, Holly Springs Jewelers, The Magnolia Thomas Restaurant and Vigenzo’s.
