DEAR EDITOR:

School shootings are an unthinkable crime against innocent victims. Since our schools are “Gun Free Zones” they have become an easy target for mentally unstable or drug induced evil people (such as Columbine).

Let’s put our current resources to full use by training our current Junior ROTC instructors (retired military) as armed first responders. Theses are people that have protected our country as a career and are trained professionals.

With some additional training, they could become great protectors in our schools. Both of my daughters were in our high school ROTC program, and I got to know the instructors, both a chief master sergeant and colonel.

Both were great people and would be perfect protection for our school.

Once you have trained and equipped the instructors, advertise this fact to make schools less inviting for evil criminals that are looking for an easy target.

This would free currently armed school police to randomly patrol any other schools that do not have ROTC instructors.

Also allow trained teachers and administrators to have access to firearms as they do in Harrold, Tex.

Additional protectors for our schools could be retired law enforcement and military.

The way you stop an evil person with a gun is with a good person with a gun.

Let’s have more good people with guns.
