Two people were arrested and charged with armed robbery Tuesday night after allegedly robbing a Canton smoke shop.

Lt. Jamie Gianfala, acting spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, said a store employee of The Classic Smoke Shop at 127 Big Oak Drive gave a description of the suspects and their car, including the license plate number, after calling police around 8 p.m.

Brandon Weaver, 26, of Nelson, and Leagh Wright, 27, of Jasper, were pulled over in a traffic stop on Cumming Highway and Interstate 575 and arrested after Cherokee Sheriff’s Office deputies saw their car flee from the business, Gianfala said.

“(The) two suspects were taken into custody without incident,” Gianfala said. “A .45-caliber handgun and cash were located inside of the vehicle.”

Gianfala said Weaver is also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and has an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.

Both remain at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
