The Class AAAAAA sectional includes athletes from Regions 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Among the boys events scheduled for today are the pole vault, which opens at a height of 10 feet, the high jump, which opens at 5-feet-8 inches, and the discus and the triple jump. The girls’ events slated for this evening are the triple jump, the high jump and the discus.
The remainder of the meet will take place on Saturday.
Cherokee, which is strong in the throwing events, will have the most representatives of any of the county’s three competing schools.
Tunde Ayinyala is the third seed in the discus after throwing a qualifying distance of 149 feet, 11inches”. The mark is just of three feet shy of the top qualifying mark put up by Roswell’s Richard Delphin. Also competing in the event is Tally Redmond and Woodstock’s Alex Motsinger.
Cherokee’s Armony Parker will be the only local competitor in the boys’ high jump.
Region title winner Kylon Drones of Woodstock will compete in the triple jump as will Cherokee’s Asher Davis.
In the girls’ high jump, Etowah’s Allison Guebert is a favorite. Her mark of
5-2 is just two inches off the top qualifier and won her the Region 5AAAAAA title. Woodstock’s Hannah Braxton will also compete in the event.
Guebert will also compete in the triple jump along with Woodstock’s Hannah Frantz.
Etowah’s Leena Morris and Cherokee’s Lorainne Useche will compete in the discus.
