The Tribune was awarded second-place honors for Best Layout and Design and Editorial Page categories, third-place awards for Lifestyle Coverage and Special Section for its Progress edition, as well as third place for the Page One category.
The Georgia Press Association honored the winners for their outstanding achievements in journalism at the Jekyll Island Club
Hotel during the group’s 127th annual convention.
“I am proud of each member of our staff for another outstanding year. It is truly rewarding for our team to be recognized in such a positive way for their hard work and effort over the past year,” said Cherokee Tribune Publisher Otis A. Brumby III.
Individual first-place awards were given to chief photographer Laura Moon for Sports Photograph and Kristal Dixon for Hard News Writing. Megan Thornton received third place for Hard News Writing.
Dixon also took second place for Investigative Reporting for her coverage of the Bobo deal.
Cherokee Tribune photographer Todd Hull received third place in Feature Photography for his photo, “Ghoulish Good Times.”
Photographer Emily Barnes was awarded second place in the Photo Essay category, and photographer Nathan Self took third place in the category.
In the Sports Writing category, William Bretherton was awarded second place and Chris Byess third place.
Cherokee Tribune columnist Chris Collett won third place for Serious Column and columnist Marguerite Cline was awarded third place for Humorous Column.
The awards also recognize the work of Editorial Page Editor Joe Kirby, Sports Editor John Bednarowski, Assistant Sports Editor Eli Boorstein, Tribune Sports Editor Emily Horos, Lifestyle Editor Kathy Goldsberry, Night Editor Emily Boorstein, Copy Desk Chief Morgan Marsh, Copy Editors Sarah Lancaster, Margaret Chwat, Gloria Love and Joel Raffety; and Editorial Page Columnists Donald Conkey and Juanita
