The city of Canton is advising that water service has been interrupted for customers on several Canton streets.

The issues are on Jeanette Street, Hospital Circle and Cherokee Street, the city said in a release earlier this morning.

Canton said the outages are “due to the replacement of an inoperable fire hydrant.”

The city hopes to have the water back on for these streets by 2 p.m. At that point, Canton said a boil advisory will be in effect until further notice.

Why would a fire hydrant be on the same line as drinking water?

This is the way they are installed throughout the world. Do you really think that a separate infrastructure would be practical for a fire emergency system that has a very slim chance of ever actually being used to douse a fire?
