DEAR EDITOR:

I read in your paper dated June 23, 2013, that the City Council is considering spending $291,000 on an amphitheater as part of the Etowah River Park.

In my opinion this would be bad use of our taxpayer monies.

I lived two-tenths of a mile from Hobgood Park’s amphitheater for eight years, and only remember two concerts. One was an open forum, mainly high school bands, and one was an old ’70s Southern rock band.

Mainly the amphitheater is used by skateboarders doing jumps, etc. In fact, Woodstock’s summer concerts are under a gazebo in downtown Woodstock.

Being $40 million in debt, we should pass on this suggestion.
