BALL GROUND — Those who want to celebrate freedom in advance of the Fourth of July will have a chance Saturday at the second Faith and Freedom Festival in downtown Ball Ground.
Opening ceremonies are at 3 p.m. and the event continues with an afternoon of fun and music followed by a freedom worship service at 7:30 p.m. The festival concludes with the city’s fireworks show.
About 4,000 attended the first festival in 2012, and a larger crowd is anticipated for this year, festival organizers said.
The day is put on by the Ball Ground United Methodist Church and the speaker for the evening is the Rev. Warren Lathem, who started a seminary in Venezuela and whose son, Jarrad Lathem, is former pastor of the church.
“I am doing the sermon on freedom, on dealing with the foundations of freedom in our Constitution, and what that foundation for freedom is in our Judeo-Christian tradition,” Lathem said.
“More than any time in my lifetime we need to affirm the principles of our Republic, our traditions and the things that made our nation great. We need to proclaim our freedoms and for me that is Christ and the Constitution.”
Musical entertainment begins at 3:30 p.m. with the band Purely Acoustic, followed by Lost and Found at 4:50, and August Rain at 6:10 p.m.
Hosts of the Victory 91.5 Morning Show, Rise & Stein, David and Leanna Stein will be broadcasting live from the event.
There will be a Kids’ Zone sponsored by Bruce Chiropractic. Throughout the day there also will be old-fashioned festival games.
Products and services will be on display from local businesses and concessions will be available.
“As we prepare to celebrate the Independence of our great nation, come be reminded of what the Founders fought to win, and we’ve struggled for centuries to preserve,” a release from the event organizers stated.
“Come fellowship with your countrymen, praise the God who blessed our founding, and be reminded that no matter how far we come, faith and freedom still endure.”
