Marlow’s actions questioned

I have been following the continuing saga of Kelly Marlow vs. Everybody in Cherokee County with a great deal of sadness. It seems that once again our county is torn apart by an issue that should never have reached this level of vitriol.

Marlow has been on the school board for six months. During this time she has stated on numerous occasions that she “doesn’t understand” this operation of the board, or this budget and audit, or even the correct parliamentarian procedure for board meetings.

This is actually quite normal for anyone starting a new job, which is why I’m surprised and concerned that Ms. Marlow has not taken the time to acclimate herself to the procedures and processes that are part of her position before taking the positions she has.

What worries me more than all of the above, is why someone so new to her role, has an “entourage” of consultants, advisers and activists who constantly surround her and “protect” her from the very people who elected her, and, why she needs this group in the first place.

No other board member that I know of has the need for this. Is Ms. Marlow really taking her role on the board seriously, or is she already running for another political position?

I don’t remember seeing Robert Trim’s or Carolyn Cosby’s name on the ballot last November and yet they are a constant presence wherever Ms. Marlow goes. Even our county Republican Party chair, Rick Davis, has chosen to enter this fray, when the reality is that every member of the board is Republican. Are there now levels of Republicanism we must meet for job success?

This leads me to the most important question Ms. Marlow should answer in all her public meetings. Who is really behind all these actions?

Who really wants all of these “committees” that Ms. Marlow says she needs to help her understand? Who really put our children in potential educational jeopardy?

Is Ms. Marlow really the voice, or the puppet in all the upheaval her actions have generated?

Who’s really driving this bus?

Im not sure how I "entered the fray" other than trying to bring the two sides together initially to see if we could find some common ground. As for the Facebook issue reported on here, well, mistakes have been made and I have never attested to be perfect. I've made my mea culpa and talked with the majority of those involved and apologized. Other than that, I have remained neutral on the subject. I have examined and can see the concern and frustration on both sides and what it is doing to the county, much like you. I have my concerns and have shared them with the appropriate people and hope that this can all be resolved in a fashion that satisfies everyone.

Thanks for responding to my letter. My comment regarding you was over my concern that you were recognized by the leaders of Ms. Marlow's last public meeting. Regardless if you were only there as spectator, the "impression" that was given was that you were endorsing Ms. Marlow's actions over any other duly elected REPUBLICAN candidate. Please try to limit your appearances with Ms. Marlow so that I & many other Cherokee residents' can be satisfied that your position as Chairman is being equitably supportive of all the PARTY!

AMEN! Ms. Marlow has proven to be completely ineffective, divisive and irrational in office. Time for her to GO! Trim and Cosby need to hit the road as well.
