From staff reports

Police say a 14-year-old Canton boy was badly injured Wednesday night when he was hit by a car as he rode his bike on Toonigh Road.

Cherokee Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident on Toonigh Road near Holly Springs Road and found the boy “seriously injured,” said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy was sent to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite Hospital.

“Although serious, his injuries do not appear to be life threatening,” Baker said.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, but Baker said it doesn’t look like charges will be filed against the car’s driver, as the boy appears to have been at fault.

“Both the bicycle and the car were traveling in the same direction, and the child swerved in front of the car as the car was attempting to go around the bicycle,” Baker said.
