DEAR EDITOR:

I am that person who has happily lived on the outside of politics. I research candidates during election season and vote, then trust those elected to do their jobs as they’ve promised.

Sadly, my ignorant bliss came to a screeching halt this summer when I learned of the now infamous Kelly Marlow letter to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

I don’t get it. Why would she risk our county’s fantastic reputation with the Cherokee County School District? So I’ve researched. I read everything I can find. I ask questions.

I can’t believe a representative of our kids would seek action that could very well hurt them. I’ve seen her questions, I’ve seen the answers.

Yet I see her continue to bully the very people who voted her in to office. I’ve seen a few remarks by a few folks that were not very nice geared towards her. A few.

But those of us who are happy with CCSD and feel our kids are getting great educations are now being referred to as “minions” and “thugs.” That is not only childish, it is extremely disrespectful.

Calling adults who voted her into office by petty names is ridiculous. I can’t fathom why an elected official would lash out at entire groups of citizens, calling the entirety of CCSD principals, teachers, PTA leaders and parents “thugs.”

To me, this is not only offensive, it is irresponsible. If she’s asked questions and doesn’t understand the answers, ask more specific questions. If she doesn’t like the answers, well, that’s unfortunate.

But lashing out at the very people who gave her that job is immature and reprehensible. I met Ms. Marlow when she knocked on my door last fall and asked for my vote. I liked her.

I wish I’d have known hiding under a nice, seemingly caring facade was a big bully. Our decorated school system is in jeopardy because of a bully. That must stop.

I agree as well. The Board answered her questions AGAIN at the last Board meeting. And handed out Q/A sheets on the budget and audit. And explained how many millions of dollars that our district earned but were renigged on by the Fed and State. And explained why they have to outsource the custodial positions because the state wants our county to foot the $400M tab for their health insurance. It was a 3 hour meeting and they went the extra mile to accommodate the folks who continue to pound them with the same questions over and over that they have answered over and over.

Enough is enough. Ms Marlow needs to resign and quit wasting our time and resources. Maybe her felony arrest for making false statements to police will take care of that. Here's to hoping....

I am also a Post 1 parent, non-teacher, homeowner and taxpayer. I completely agree with this letter finding it shocking and disappointing that a School Board member would resort to name calling. Ms. Marlow has had ample opportunity to step up, stay positive, respond to people that wrote her letters with concerns, but she has chosen not to. She responded to a few letters on the day before or day of the July 24th Board meeting. I am frustrated and disappointed with how she has gone about things....especially calling a group of concerned parents, "thugs". This must stop, although it will be too little too late for this parent.

I couldn't agree more with this letter. I too was on the outside of the political world until I was drawn in by the disconnect between this nice lady I had met at my front door and her irresponsible behavior in her role as school board member.

I too have spent hours objectively reading the open records reports and focusing on the unemotional facts of the case. I have come to the very clear conclusion that although I wish her and her family the very best on a personal level, I cannot in any way support her continuing to cause so much havoc to our school system.

She desperately needs to be replaced on the board with someone who will work effectively to make positive changes.
