CANTON — Both lanes of Knox Bridge Highway were closed for an hour after two cars hit in a head-on collision that left both drivers in the hospital Sunday at about 9:40 p.m., according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender.

“Both drivers were taken to Marietta’s Kennestone Hospital in stable condition,” Cavender said.

Dawn Skipper of Cleveland, 40, was driving east on Knox Bridge Highway when she lost control of her blue PT Cruiser negotiating a curve and crossed the center line, hitting a silver Chevrolet Tahoe head-on, driven by 68-year-old Nancy Breitbarth of Canton, according to Tracey Watson of the Department of Public Safety.

Cavender said that Skipper, who was driving the PT Cruiser, broke her femur, and Breitbarth broke both of her ankles.

Both lanes of Knox Bridge Highway were closed for about an hour while the wreck was being cleared, Cavender said.

Watson confirmed that both of the drivers were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, and said that all charges are pending and the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the wreck.
