ACWORTH — Oak Grove Elementary School Fine Arts Academy and Clark Creek Elementary School were under a code yellow safety warning Thursday morning after the district was notified just after 8 a.m. that a suspicious person may have been nearby, according to School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby.
A code yellow means there is a potential threat in a school’s proximity, and as a precautionary measure, the school’s perimeter and entire facility is secured, all exterior doors are locked and students are kept inside.
Oak Grove was under the code yellow warning for about 15 minutes, until the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office gave an “all clear.” Clark Creek received an “all clear” from school police at 9:10 a.m.
Letters went home with students at both schools Thursday afternoon to parents from the principals explaining what had happened.
“Our teachers and staff are to be commended on the excellent job they did ensuring the safety of our students today, as our local school safety and Security Plan was effectively implemented in this situation,” Clark Creek Principal Dr. Jennifer Scrivner said in her letter to parents.
She said activities such as class and testing continued as usual inside the school during the lockdown.
