Qualifying closes today in all the cities in Cherokee County except Canton, where it ends Friday at 5 p.m.
So far in Woodstock, where the mayor’s position and three council slots are up for grabs in the Nov. 5 city elections, incumbent Mayor Donnie Henriques was the only one to qualify for the top spot. Ward 5 City Councilman Bud Leonard has qualified to run again for his seat and Councilman Bob Mueller plans to run for re-election to Ward 3.
Judy Davila made it official that she plans to seek the Ward 3 seat and Warren Johnson qualified to run for Ward 1 for the seat now held by Councilman Randy Brewer.
For the city of Canton, Clint Weatherby and Sandy McGrew made it official that they are both vying for the Ward 1 seat now held by Bob Rush, and Bill Grant was the only one so far to run for the Ward 2 seat held by Bill Bryan. Rush and Bryan have said they do not plan to seek re-election.
Molly Lewis and John Rust are both going for the Ward 3 seat held by John Beresford.
In Ball Ground, Mayor Rick Roberts made it
official that he is seeking another term in office and he was joined by City Councilman John Byrd, who is seeking re-election to his Post 4 City Council seat.
Councilmember Mickey O’Malley qualified to seek another term to Post 5 on Tuesday.
In Waleska, Incumbent Councilman Dennis “Hill” Cochran qualified at City Hall on Tuesday.
Thad Thacker qualified in Nelson to fill one of the two slots on the City Council there, and incumbent Jackie Jarrett qualified on Tuesday. The top two vote- getters in the city election there will take over the jobs.
