Woodstock Police, Fire announce upcoming public safety academy

The Woodstock Police Department is now accepting applications for the fall Citizens’ Public Safety Academy, scheduled to begin Sept. 25.

Citizens’ Public Safety Academy is a series of educational classes designed to enhance the community’s understanding of various aspects within the police and fire profession.

The program is intended to strengthen the relationship between the citizens and the Woodstock Police and Fire Departments, as well as spotlight the responsibilities of public safety personnel and risks associated with the professions.

Some of the classes offered during this series are Domestic Violence Response, Criminal Investigation Procedures, Crime Prevention, SWAT presentation, Fire Safety and Fire Prevention.

The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy will be at Magnolia Hall, at 108 Arnold Mill Road, in Woodstock, every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 25 to Nov. 20.

Anyone who lives, works or has an expressed interest in the city may apply for the Citizens’ Public Safety Academy, a spokesperson for the police department said.

Applicants are required to be at least 19 years of age and submit to a background investigation prior to acceptance in the program. Once accepted, positions are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Citizens’ Public Safety Academy applications are available online at www.woodstockga.gov/police/cpa or at the Woodstock Police Department, located at 12453 Highway 92.
