The Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority has issued a water boil advisory for residents and businesses in the Free Home and Ball Ground areas.

Dwight Turner, spokesman for the Water Authority, said Thursday morning that the advisory is due to a leak on a 20-inch water main on Highway 20 near Old Ball Ground Highway in the Free Home community.

Overnight, Turner said water pressure in the area began to drop and has so far affected Free Home Elementary School.

“They’ve got water now,” Turner said. “They changed their lunch menu, but other than that, they’re operating just fine.”

The Water Authority is working to reroute water to avoid further issues, but residents and businesses in the area should continue to operate under the boil advisory until further notice, the authority said in a release Thursday morning.

According to the Water Authority, water should be boiled at a “rolling boil” for least one minute, prior to consumption.
