SCRAM! not in wrong

DEAR EDITOR: This letter is written in response to the letter from Lori Salata published Oct. 4. First, let me say if I were not fully aware of the situation Kelly Marlow has put the Cherokee County School District in, I too would be disgusted and infuriated by the remarks to which Mrs. Salata refers.

Fortunately, I do know what has happened and I have been involved and Mrs. Salata’s accusations are without merit. I am a member of SCRAM! and I chair the Special Committee to Recall Marlow.

First, SCRAM! was started as a means to bring attention to a problem in our county and to call responsible citizens to action. SCRAM! exists today with one purpose — to protect the integrity of the Cherokee County School District and to support its 39,000 plus students.

SCRAM! is not a “hate group” and SCRAM! members are not “bullies.” We are a group of parents, educators, students and concerned citizens that care about the well-being of all children of Cherokee County.

Please be assured that the SCRAM! Facebook page is monitored. However, with nearly 2,000 members, it is difficult to police every comment made.

SCRAM!, as a group, would never condone negative comments about anyone’s children being made on its page. I have personally never seen negative comments about Ms. Marlow’s children — only comments of concern. That being said, if the facts stated were misconstrued and found offensive, please accept our apologies.

If there are remarks in the future, as Mrs. Salata claims, they should be documented and brought to the attention of the page administrator.

Just for the record, it didn’t take SCRAM! or the Ethics Hearing to malign Kelly Marlow’s reputation — she alone did that. It is very unfortunate that her family and friends now feel that burden as well.

As adults, we have a duty to set examples for our children. The example I am setting for mine is that you can’t be afraid to stand up for what is right. It isn’t always an easy position to be in and taking the high road is, admittedly, a challenge.

Kelly Marlow made this issue personal for me when she unethically sent a selfish letter to SACS because she was frustrated with her own inability to function as an effective member of the Cherokee County Board of Education.

I have three children who attend CCSD schools. One is a junior who has attended since kindergarten. I refused to sit by and watch Ms. Marlow jeopardize my son’s dreams of attending his college of choice due to some petty, personal vendetta that she feels must be settled on the dais of the Board of Education.

There is a very simple solution — Kelly Marlow needs to resign. Ms. Marlow has had a stressful year with the loss of her father, an election, a divorce, and an arrest.

As part of her close family, Mr. And Mrs. Salata are in the perfect position to encourage Kelly to take care of herself and get her house in order. There is no shame in realizing one’s limitations. The only shame is in continuing to expose herself, her family, her county and the school district to continued ridicule and expense with her shenanigans.

We have screen shots of your "non" bullying group talking about people weight, their feet, their children, their looks and laughing about a death that left an "inheritance". I think Mrs Marlow and her family would rather have the loved one that was lost. Plus, the inheritance could have been $50.00 or $500.00. You have no idea what it was. The fact is that someone makes a mean comment on your scram page and then everyone else jumps in and continues the trend. Bullying done by adults, really? Adults that are teachers in the Cherokee County Community. Scary, that you are actually teaching our children and suppose to be watching and making sure they are not being bullied. Makes me wonder if the children are safe?

Letter to SACS, if you believe that there is nothing wrong with what the BOE is doing then why were you worried that we would lose accreditation? Apparently, you and the scram community do believe that there is something wrong with Dr P and the way the BOE is being run, otherwise there would be no worries about losing anything. I wasn't worried, but you and your minions seem to be. You have now closed the page so the public can't view it and have the bullying corrected. You are now in hiding so the community can't see you bullying others in the community. Teaching your child to stand up is one thing. Teaching them to bully is another. Shame on you and Scram!

I did offer screenshots to Christine Rhea your page admin and she declined. If the comments were not slanderous in nature then why did your other Admin Ashley Cline remove them? While I stated this before I believe that it needs to be said again I am all for free speech just don't when it slanders and maligns another person's reputation. Back up your statements with facts regarding my niece and nephew, my husband, and myself and I will apologize.

I am not trying to belittle your group's cause. That is what this country was founded on the principles of free speech; speak up when you don't like something. My letter to the editor was simply regarding your group's posts regarding my family NOT your fight with Kelly.
SCRAM true colors

Albers: "if I were not fully aware of the situation Kelly Marlow has put the Cherokee County School District in, I too would be disgusted and infuriated by the remarks to which Mrs. Salata refers. "

But since you ARE fully aware of the situation, you therefore see no problem whatsoever insulting the woman's children and maligning her deceased parents.

Oh, and your little Facebook hate group has now hidden all its comments to the Public, since it's been thoroughly exposed as a petty hate group.

And thus the true colors of SCRAM are revealed. ANYTHING is fair game in pursuit of the personal agenda of Christine Rea. This has nothing to do with the District and everything to do with petty-minded people on both sides.
