Police say a 27-year-old man, whose badly burned body was discovered Sunday afternoon in the woods near Woodstock, committed suicide.

Armando Ruiz Medina of Woodstock was found by officers near the Noonday Mobile Home Park on Dupree Road after a resident reported discovering his charred body, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab performed an autopsy Tuesday morning and ruled Medina’s death a suicide, Baker said.

“A gas tank and lighter were located near the body,” Baker said.

Medina lived at another trailer park across the street from Noonday.

Before the discovery of the body, which appeared to have been in the woods for several days, Medina’s ex-girlfriend had reported him missing to police Saturday, Baker said.

“She advised deputies when she reported him missing that they had broken up last Tuesday and no one had seen him since then,” Baker said. “(He) was reportedly very upset over the break-up.”
