Ezra Lee Waters, 76, of Canton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Heritage Hospice in Marietta after a short battle with Leukemia. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as an MP in Germany. While there, he married the love of his life, Karin and later welcomed daughter, Patricia. Upon his return stateside, he joined the City of Canton Police Department. Shortly before joining the City of Atlanta Police Department, the happy couple added a 2nd daughter, Machael. As the Fulton County Police Department was formed he joined their ranks where he retired as a Major in 1991. Being restless in retirement, he was honored when asked to serve as interim Police Chief for the City of Alpharetta. After 36 years of faithful service to law enforcement, he finally retired for good. Although being an officer was his life, he was also a Master Mason in the Canton Masonic Lodge #77 and a member of the Cherokee Shrine Club #18. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest, Hoyt, Floyd, Jake and A.J. Water and sister, Edith Wood. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Karin Waters; daughter, Patricia Hartman; daughter and son-in-law, Machael & Del Sitzberger. Grandsons, Zac Sitzberger ( and wife Emily); Joshua Hartman and Justin Hartman. Sisters, Essie Yother and Ethel Childers. Numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 7th from 4PM-9PM and will honor and celebrate his life on Friday, November 8th at 11:00 AM from Darby Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory. Darby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and burial will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
