CANTON — Police say four cars at the YMCA in Canton had their windows busted and items stolen from inside in broad daylight Friday morning.

“It’s pretty bold and brazen,” said Pacer Cordry, spokesman for the Canton Police Department. “That’s always a concern of ours, when they hit during that time of day in a busy area like that. One of the cars was relatively close to Riverstone Parkway.”

Cordry said purses and cash were taken from the cars Friday morning, and detectives are still searching for whoever is responsible.

There have been other thefts from cars along Riverstone Parkway in recent months, which resulted in the arrest of a few juvenile suspects, Cordry said. It is not known if those same suspects could be responsible, but Cordry said he doubted it.

“I don’t believe it’s them,” he said. “We don’t know for sure.”

In the meantime, Cordry said residents should be mindful to not leave valuables in plain sight in their cars, particularly at gyms.

“That’s going to be a target area around our county,” he said. “People have a tendency to leave purses and valuables in their car, versus taking them inside and putting them in a locker.”
