HOLLY SPRINGS — The Holly Springs Police Department is taking applications for the spring term of its citizen’s police academy.

The police academy is free and will be every Monday beginning Feb. 3 through March 10 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., said Lt. Tanya Smith, spokeswoman for Holly Springs Police.

Smith said attendees will learn about the history of law enforcement and functions of criminal investigations, crime scene processing, use of force, home and personal protection methods and other topics. They will also get to ride along with an officer during a shift.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, as class size is limited. All applicants must be 19 years old and be willing to submit to a background check, Smith said.

Visit www.hollyspringsga.us to print an application or call Detective Greg Bettis at (770) 721-7526 to determine eligibility. Applications are due Tuesday, Jan. 28.
