The program’s second season will look very similar to the first, with the same opponents from this past fall’s inaugural schedule, simply with the home teams — in most cases — swapped.
Looking to build off a 6-4 finish in its first season, Reinhardt will kick off its schedule when it travels to Mercer on Aug. 28.
The two startup programs also opened the 2013 season in Macon. In that game, the Eagles rallied to take a 37-34 lead before the Bears — part of the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision — kicked a pair of late field goals to win 40-37.
Next fall’s game was originally scheduled to take place in Waleska, but Mercer came to a financial agreement with Reinhardt to play the game in Macon again. The difference will be that the 2014 game will be played on a Thursday, as opposed to a Saturday.
Following the Mercer game, Reinhardt will face the same nine Mid-South Conference opponents, with games against West Division teams counting in the league standings.
The Eagles will travel to Lindsey Wilson on Sept. 6 before opening a short home stand with Kentucky Christian and Faulkner. Reinhardt
will finish the month of September
on the road, traveling to Bethel on Sept. 27.
On Oct. 4, Union will visit Reinhardt before the Eagles enter one of two open dates. They will then return to the field for a three-game road trip, which begins Oct. 18 at Belhaven.
Reinhardt will travel to face the University of the Cumberlands, the NAIA runner-up, on Oct. 25 and, after the second bye week, to Cumberland University on Nov. 8.
Reinhardt will wrap up the regular season Nov. 15, when it hosts Campbellsville.
Reinhardt spokesman Jason Hanes said the university is looking at the option of adding an 11th game to the schedule, in order to create a fifth home game.
“We have two open dates, and some NAIA teams have played 11 games and just have the one bye week,” Hanes said. “That is something we are looking into, but there are currently no offers on the table. There is a possibility that we could add a fifth home game that way.”
Game times and information on ticket packages and prices will be released at a later date.
