Halstead has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for more than seven years, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the agency.
The reserve unit, which functions as a service arm of the agency, consisted of 15 deputies in 2013, with 10 certified and five auxiliary members. In 2013, the unit performed 4,548 volunteer hours for the sheriff’s office. The tasks included working civic events, DUI task forces and patrol and shifts at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center, Baker said.
Baker said the unit raised more than $9,900 for the Christmas Joy Program in 2013, enabling 153 children to receive gifts.
