Woodstock Police say a burglary suspect picked an interesting hiding spot at a thrift store early Wednesday morning.

Karim Tawfik, 24, of Woodstock was found hiding in a clothes bin covered up with purses at Goodwill on Highway 92, said Brittany Duncan, spokeswoman for the Woodstock Police Department.

Duncan said detectives believe Tawfik forced open a stock entrance on the building near Interstate 575 at about 2:50 a.m., tripping the business’ alarm system.

Woodstock officers Cpl. Ron Sinfelt and Yvonne Letzin responded to the alarm, along with the Acworth Police Department’s K9 unit.

“Upon arrival, they noticed the bay door partially open,” Duncan said, adding that the door may have been pried with a crowbar.

Officers went inside and found the suspect hiding under the pile of purses.

“He was subsequently taken into custody without incident,” Duncan said.

Duncan said, to her knowledge, no such burglaries have been reported at the Goodwill before, and she wasn’t sure why Tawfik had been in the store.

Tawfik was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, misdemeanor obstruction and possession of tools for commission of a crime, police said. He was held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday morning with $24,400 bond, according to the jail.
