The Cherokee Board of Education will hear from the district’s fiscal 2011 auditor at its meeting tonight, after the board voted at its October meeting to bring the accounting firm back to answer questions raised by board member Kelly Marlow.

After months of Marlow saying she had seven pages of unanswered questions about the fiscal 2011 school board audit, the board voted 5-1 in October to bring the auditor back to answer questions for a fee, capped at $1,280.

School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said the auditor would make its hour-long presentation early in the meeting.

Audit firm Mauldin & Jenkins will answer pre-submitted questions for the first 45 minutes of the presentation and take follow-up questions for the last 15 minutes, the board agreed in October.

Questions were to be submitted by Nov. 20, and Jacoby said she received “about three pages of questions for the auditor from Ms. Marlow.”

The meeting will be at the historic Canton High School Board Auditorium, located at 111 Academy St. in Canton on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The board will also consider revisions to board policy regarding meeting agendas, which was first requested by board member Michael Geist on Dec. 5 and revised by the superintendent to be brought back to the board for a consideration.

Also at the meeting, the board will consider adopting the Georgia Education Coalition’s 2014 Legislative Priorities.

The board will have a strategic work session before the meeting, starting at 6 p.m.

During the work session, the school board is set to: discuss board member 2014-15 budget priorities, hear an update on capital outlay projects, hear an update on the 2014 legislative session and go over a draft 2014-15 organizational chart.
