Rechsteiner, known by his professional wrestling name, “Rick Steiner,” is serving in his ninth year on the Board. He served as vice chairman in 2010 and chairman of the School Board in 2011.
The board member was first appointed to the School Board in November 2005 to fill a vacancy. The Republican was elected to the Board in 2006 and re-elected in 2010.
He and his wife, Jayme, have lived in Cherokee County for more than 25 years, raising three boys in the Woodstock community.
Their two oldest sons have graduated from Etowah High School, where the youngest son is a sophomore.
“It has been my honor to represent the students, parents and taxpayers of Cherokee County on the School Board,” Rechsteiner said in making the announcement. “I served as chairman when our school system received re-accreditation from SACS CASI as a quality school system.
Rechsteiner said he is proud of the school system’s accomplishments in his time on the board.
“I’ve been proud to see us start new programs, increase our use of classroom technology and increase our test scores. But, I know we have more work to do, and I would like to continue my service on the board as we work to expand options and choices for students, increase our graduation rate and restore teacher morale,” the incumbent said.
Rechsteiner is employed in the real estate business and is a former professional wrestler, where he won multiple world titles under the ring name “Rick Steiner.”
